Spoken directions, route planning, and rerouting powered by the HERE Maps SDK — a mapping platform used widely in automotive navigation. Point-of-interest search is built in.
Crime data on the map
A heatmap overlay assembled from incident records published by municipal governments. See reported incident density along a route or around a destination before you set off, rather than reading about the area afterward.
Places you drive often
Save home, work, and custom destinations, and schedule drives in advance. Saved places and recent destinations live on your account, so they follow you if you change devices.
Detail when you need it
The full crime radar — incident type, date, and block-level location — alongside real-time speed limits, toll cost estimates, and live search autosuggest. All of it is part of the app, not a separate upgrade.
Where the crime data comes from
ShieldNav’s crime layer is assembled from open data published by city and county governments — the same public records portals police departments use to publish incident logs. We normalize records from each jurisdiction into a common format so one map can span multiple cities.
Three things we are explicit about, both in the app and here:
- Coverage varies by city. A jurisdiction that does not publish open incident data will not have a crime layer in ShieldNav. What you see on the map reflects what was reported and published, not everything that happened.
- The data is historical, not live. Municipal feeds publish on their own schedules — some daily, some weekly, some with a lag of several weeks. ShieldNav shows the most recent data available for a jurisdiction and does not present it as a real-time picture.
- It describes places, not people. Crime data covers reported incidents in an area. It is not a prediction, not a judgment about the people who live or work there, and not a substitute for your own awareness while driving.

A subscription is required to use ShieldNav after the free trial. ShieldNav is an auto-renewing subscription sold through the Apple App Store, available monthly or annually. New accounts begin with a 7-day free trial. If you do not cancel at least 24 hours before the trial ends, it converts automatically into a paid subscription and your Apple ID is charged the price shown at sign-up. The subscription then renews automatically each period until you cancel.
Current pricing is shown in the App Store and in the app before you subscribe. Cancel any time from Settings → [your Apple ID] → Subscriptions on your iPhone. Billing, renewals, and refunds are handled by Apple — see our Terms of Use for the full subscription disclosure, the Privacy Policy for how we handle your data, or Support for how to cancel or request a refund.
