What is ShieldNav?
A GPS navigation app for iPhone. It gives you turn-by-turn driving directions, and it displays crime data drawn from public municipal records on the same map, so you can see reported incident activity along a route or around a destination.
Can I download it yet?
Not yet. ShieldNav is in active development and has not been released on the App Store. Join the waitlist and we will email you at launch. We use that list for the launch announcement only.
Is there an Android version?
No. ShieldNav is being built for iPhone first, and an Android version is not currently in development.
Where does the crime data come from?
From open data published by city and county governments — the public records portals where police departments post incident logs. We normalize each jurisdiction’s format into a common structure so one map can cover multiple cities.
How current is the data?
It depends on the city. Municipal feeds publish on their own schedules — some daily, some weekly, some with a lag of several weeks. ShieldNav shows the most recent data available for a jurisdiction. It is historical data and we do not present it as a live picture of what is happening right now.
Which cities are covered?
Coverage follows publication. A jurisdiction that publishes open incident data can have a crime layer; one that does not, cannot. We are expanding coverage as we add and validate new municipal sources.
Does ShieldNav tell me which neighborhoods are dangerous?
No, and this is deliberate. ShieldNav displays historical reported incidents. It does not score neighborhoods, predict crime, or make claims about the people who live or work in an area. Reported incidents are not a complete record of what occurred, and they are not a verdict on a place. Our Crime Data Disclaimer sets out these limits and our Fair Housing position in full.
Do I need a subscription?
Yes, after the free trial. ShieldNav is one app with one subscription — there is no limited free version. Every new account starts with a 7-day free trial with full access; when the trial ends, an active subscription is required to keep using the app. If you do not cancel at least 24 hours before the trial ends, it converts automatically into a paid auto-renewing subscription — monthly or annual, whichever you chose — which renews automatically each period until you cancel. Pricing is shown in the App Store and in the app before you subscribe. The product page lists everything included.
How do I cancel a subscription or get a refund?
Subscriptions are billed by Apple, so both are handled through your Apple account. Cancel at Settings → [your Apple ID] → Subscriptions on your iPhone; request a refund at reportaproblem.apple.com. ShieldNav cannot issue refunds directly. See Support for details.
Do you sell my location data?
No. We are not a data broker and we do not run an advertising business — ShieldNav is funded entirely by subscriptions. Our Privacy Policy lists every third party that receives data and what each one gets.
How do I delete my account and data?
In the app, go to Settings → Account → Delete Account. You can also email support@shieldnav.com with the subject “Delete My Account” from the address on your account. Requests are processed within 30 days.
Who builds ShieldNav?
